Benefits of Ultrasounds

Ultrasound is commonly known as Sonography, and this process of scanning uses sound wave technology to produce images to understand what is going on inside the body. Ultrasound is done using a machine called transducer and sonographers need to have specialized training on this before performing a test.

Benefits of Ultrasounds

Ultrasound screening has many benefits in the field of medicine as it helps in diagnosing several conditions of the body which would have otherwise remained undetected. Ultrasound tests further help the doctors by providing guidance through the complicated medical procedures. You can book with us at Radiology Center At Harding, located in Morristown, New Jersey.
The various types of Ultrasounds
Let us look at the common types of ultrasound performed:

Abdominal Ultrasound Imaging

This ultrasound imaging is used when it comes to the testing and examination of the internal organs such as liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, and bladder. This is done to see the movement of internal tissues and organs. They act as guidance for procedures like needle biopsies. It helps a physician in detecting the source of abdominal pains (for example stones in the kidney) or the reason behind enlargement of an abdominal organ. Abdominal Ultrasound mainly helps the physician in the evaluation of blockages due to blood flow, congenital malformation, a build-up of plaque inside the vessel, etc.

Pelvic Ultrasound Imaging

This form of Ultrasound Imaging is used mainly during examining a case of pregnancy because it determines the condition of the uterus and ovaries and states the progress of health of the embryo or foetus. For men, Pelvic Ultrasound Imaging is done to determine the condition of their bladder and the prostate gland.
Pelvic Ultrasound Imaging is also used in cases where women experience pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding or other menstrual problems, and this imaging further determines the causes of these problems. This form of Ultrasound Imaging can also be used for identifying conditions such as ovarian cyst, ovarian canceruterine cancer etc.

Obstetric Ultrasound Imaging

This imaging process makes enhanced use of sound waves to get a visible result of the embryo or foetus and hence determine the stage of pregnancy of the women. Obstetric Ultrasound Imaging is used to indicate the following:
• to establish the presence and position of a living fetus
• to determine the age of the pregnancy and its term
• to make a diagnosis of congenital abnormalities
• to evaluate the position of the placenta
• to determine if it is a case of multiple pregnancies

Transrectal Ultrasound Imaging

transrectal ultrasound imaging is done mainly in the prostate gland region. The transabdominal method provides a much-expanded view of the pelvis area showing the relations between one internal structure with the other. In the case of a transrectal approach, the visuals obtained are better in quality, and the determination is improved.
Ultrasound imaging act as valuable screening tools when it comes to detection and determination of problems inside the body like placental issues, breech positioning etc. Nevertheless, there are certain limitations to this approach too since sound waves cannot be transmitted through dense bones or dense parts of the body.
